Annette Wabunoha Kihuguru, a seasoned banking professional with over 37 years of experience, has made significant contributions to the banking and finance sector in Uganda. During her tenure at Ecobank Uganda, as Executive Director and later Acting Managing Director, Annette played a pivotal role in driving the bank’s profitability, growing its total assets, and reversing losses, thereby making significant contributions that transformed the bank's financial performance and operational efficiency.
She has a strong Business Banking background, overseeing growth of key portfolios such as Global Corporates, Regional, and Local Corporates, International Organizations, and SMEs. Annette also made impactful contributions at Barclays Bank Uganda, Stanbic Bank Uganda, and Uganda Commercial Bank.
In addition to her extensive banking experience, Annette has served on boards and in advisory roles, such as Director of Finatach Finance and Advisory, Chairperson of Sprout Capital Investment Ltd and currently a board member at Housing Finance Bank, Uganda. Recognized for her leadership, she won the UN "Career Women" award in 2019 for her work in the financial sector. She is a fellow of the Uganda Institute of Bankers (FUIB.Hon) and initiated the maiden Barclays Uganda Women Network Forum to fit in the Diversion and Inclusion Initiative of Global Barclays Bank and mentored women some of whom are directors in banks now.
Annette holds a strong academic background that complements her extensive banking experience. She earned a Masters in Management Studies and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from the Uganda Management Institute, equipping her with advanced leadership and organizational skills. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, specializing in Economics and Political Science, from Makerere University. Her education has provided a solid foundation for her leadership roles in the banking industry and her contributions to financial strategy and governance.
